Summer sales in Gran Canaria

The Summer sales in Gran Canaria are starting this year on 2nd July and will continue until 2nd September. It’s a great time to look for bargains in Gran Canaria and the magic word to looks for on shop windows is ‘Rebajas’. Usually in the shop sales there are levels, so at first the discount may only be 25%, the month after 30-40% and at the end of the sales it’s very common to see 75% discounts in the shops.

Shops like Primark which have discounted prices all year round, do still have a sale, but on a normal day there are sale rails, although you may find a bargain on something that is classed out of season. Zara and Mango are good shops to look for sales as is Blanco. The online Summer sales have started already, ASOS.com already have their 50% sale advertised, with dresses at great prices around 8€, FREE SHIPPING to all of Spain, plus you get 10€ credit for registering to their newsletter!

KIABI the clothing shop in C.C Las Terrazas always has great prices, but you can also buy online at KIABI and they have great deals on bikinis at just 3,99€ per top or bottom with FREE postage!

Although there are no New Look shops in Gran Canaria you can still buy online and with FREE DELIVERY WORLDWIDE it’s tempting. They have some great discounts on for the Summer including Abbey Dawn shoes and clothing designed by Avril Lavigne, party dresses, shoes, and clothes for when it gets a bit cooler like chunky knit cardigans.

Toy King Sale C.C Atlantico Vecindario

Previously the locale for Valiram Hobbies, Toy King on the top floor of C.C Atlantico, Vecindario is having a huge sale with around 50% off items. Hello Kitty items were reduced by 30% of the original price, including stationery sets notebooks.

Action figures and Barbies were reduced right down, including this Barbie On Location Monte-Carlo collector doll, she was reduced from around 99€ to half price!

It did indeed look like a closing down sale, but it could be that they are clearing out old stock for the Summer. Nikki Jugueteria were also having a sale but I didn’t venture in there.

Claire’s Accessories to open in C.C Atlantico Vecindario

One of my favourite shopping centers in Gran Canaria is C.C Atlantico in Vecindario. Today’s visit to the Atlantico Center for some shopping in Carrefour, proved rewarding as I noticed the locale next to GAME, which was previously Chanrai, now has a sign on it saying Claire’s Accessories will be opening soon!

I think this is fantastic news that Claire’s are moving down the island a bit, they are one of the shops expected to be in the new shopping center in El Tablero (C.C El Tablero) so it’s interesting to see.

I’m really looking forward to the opening of Claire’s Accessories in Vecindario, more news when we have it, until then here are a couple of snaps from today.

Primark Bikinis 2012

There are some great bikinis in Primark (Las Arenas and El Mirador, Gran Canaria) for the Summer. It’s not expensive to look beach chic this Summer when Primark are doing basic bikinis from 5€ and more colourful ones at around 12€

Here are some of my favourites:

I have this black bikini below, it’s classic but with a little swish of colour to brighten it up, it was around 12€ so not the cheapest but I really like it.

I call this one The Canarian Flag bikini because it has the colours of our flag, but this particular bikini has had some bad comments online. Some say the knickers are like granny pants and that it’s more of a RyanAir Bikini. I personally like it, although I haven’t spotted it in the Primarks in Gran Canaria yet. 10€

This stripey Bandeau Bikini is just 5€ and is great for topping up your tan on the beach. At 5€ you can buy several new bikinis for the price of 1.

IKEA

IKEA in Gran Canaria is located in the Telde area of the island. There you can buy many modern style flat pack furnishings, sofas, textiles and kitchens. There is also an opportunidades area outside where you can find cheap IKEA items, plus it’s the pick up area for larger items.

There is a cafe near to the entrance, which does the usual IKEA snacks such as hotdogs and muffins, plus a restaurant inside where you can get a hot meal such as the ever popular IKEA meatballs.

The food shop near the exit stocks all the IKEA treats, biscuits and frozen foods.

A second IKEA store is being constructed in the Alcampo area of Gran Canaria, as part of a 25 million euro investment and is said to be ready for completion sometime in 2012.

Good Night Triana

Friday 4th May, the streets of Triana in Gran Canaria will be immersed in the event ‘Good Night Triana’, organised by ‘Programa Gran Canaria Moda Cálida’ in collaboration with the ‘Asociación de Empresarios de la Zona Comercial de Triana’, ‘el área de Cultura del Cabildo de Gran Canaria’ and ‘Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’.

During the day and up til midnight, shoppers can enjoy the different promotions of the businesses in the area, cultural activities such as museum visits, exhibitions, fashion blogger meet up, street Jazz, photography contests, children’s activities, visual merchandising with special décor on buildings and in shop windows.

Clothing Size Guide for Spain

Sometimes it’s hard to work out what size clothing you are in certain shops. There are EU sizes, which are mainly used in Spain (along with S, M, L in shops like Bershka and Stradivarious) although in Primark the sizes are in both European sizes and UK/Ireland sizes.
