Arguineguin is a small fishing village along the coast from Puerto Rico in the south-west of Gran Canaria. Although small, there are plenty of opportunities to go shopping in Arguineguin, whether you are looking for fresh produce in the weekly markets, a souvenir, furniture or clothing.
High Street
The high street in Arguineguin is full of various shops, such as El Kilo fabric shop, Hiper90 with assorted items like stationary, home essentials and toys, Muebles Baez furniture shop where you can purchase anything from beds to washing machines.
Supermarkets
Spar supermarket is in the heart of Arguineguin, with all you need grocery wise and in an ideal location for taxis and buses. Hiperdino (formerly Herdisa Supermarket) is in a small street off Calle Franciso Navarro. Hipercor is El Corte Ingles’ supermarket brand and can be found on the bottom floor of C.C La Marea (see below)
Vegetable Shops
Besides the main supermarkets, there are vegetable shops to buy very fresh produce and at reasonable prices. In the main entrance of the Ancora Center there is a very popular vegetable shop where a typical bag of food would cost around 4€.
Arguineguin Markets
There are 3 weekly markets in Arguineguin Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Tuesday is the main market day and is held at the Plaza Negra (market square) and has a vast amount of stalls, with clothing, beachwear, souvenirs, wooden ornaments and is close to bars with terraced areas to enjoy the sunshine.
The Thursday market is held in the Ancora Center and has a strawberry stall, scarves and clothing, plus there is often a pan pipe band at the entrance to the center.
Every Saturday there is a flea market on the market square hosted by local animal charity TARA. If you are having a clear out or want to find some bargains whilst helping the charity then you should check it out.
There are plenty of bars to enjoy an afternoon drink or snack after a day strolling round the market stalls on both market days.
Shopping Centers
There are 2 main shopping centers in Arguineguin – C.C Ancora and the more recent C.C La Marea.
Ancora Center is home to bars and restaurants along with hairdressers, real estate and 2 second hand shops. There are also a few places to purchase beachwear and clothing.
La Marea shopping center has a sports shop Burbujita, where you can find surf labels, trainers and sports equipment. There is a supermarket ‘Hipercor’ on the ground floor with convenient underground car parking, Natura for gifts and natural clothing, Kiddy’s Class childrenswear, Encuentro and Springfield.
